About SEED:

The mission of SEED schools is to prepare students academically, socially, and emotionally, for success in and beyond college in a public, college-prep, boarding school setting.

Based on the success of the first two schools in The SEED School network, one in Washington, D.C. and one in Baltimore, Maryland, The SEED School of Miami opened its doors to 60 new students in the sixth grade in August 2014 and will expand to serve over 130  students in grades 6, 7 & 8 during the 2016-2017 school year. At full scale, SEED Miami will grow to serve 400 students in grades 6-12, 100 percent of whom will come from underserved communities across South Florida.

As outlined in Florida legislation, an eligible SEED Miami student are all Florida residents, at risk of academic failure, and come from a family whose income is below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. They must also meet at least one of the below four additional risk factors:

  • The child is served under the child welfare waiver demonstration, (to include foster care) or has been declared an adjudicated dependent by a court

  • The student’s head of household is not the student’s custodial parent

  • The student resides in a household that receives a housing voucher or has been determined eligible for public housing assistance

  • A member of the student’s immediate family has been incarcerated

 

All students live on campus between Sunday afternoon and Friday afternoon and transportation is provided back and forth to home and school on the weekends.

Key Responsibilities:
As Human Resources Generalist, you will manage many day-to-day areas of SEED Miami’s human resources office, including recruitment, benefits administration, and onboarding.  

  • Conducts recruitment of exempt and non-exempt personnel and temporary/part time employee

  • Maintains accurate and timely job positing

  • Conducts new hire screening, background checks, onboarding and orientation

  • Responsible for completion and accuracy of all personnel files, including I-9s, conducts audits as needed and/or directed

  • Administer and explain benefits to express, serve as liaison between employees and insurance carriers

  • Assists in coordinating employee recognition programs and events

  • Initiate payroll processing reports for approval

  • Assist in the staff contract renewal process

  • Manage the staffing and recruiting process for position vacancies.   

  • Lead year-round outreach efforts for potential faculty, and develop a talent pipeline through partnerships with colleges and universities and via recruitment fairs.

  • Work alongside the Director of Operations to conduct annual review/renewal of internal policies; assists in drafting and developing policies and procedures.  

  • Ensure that HR initiatives are communicated and implemented throughout the School.  

  • Promote HR programs to create an efficient and conflict-free workplace

  • Assist in completing mandated reports for MDCPS and FL DOE

  • Other projects and duties as assigned by Director of Operations

 

Qualifications:

As Human Resources Generalist, you must have:

  • A passionate commitment to children and their education at every level.  

  • Solid recruiting experience with an ability to identify and cultivate talent.

  • Ability, flexibility and willingness to travel as required within Florida with occasional travel to other SEED sites.

  • Must demonstrate ability to handle confidential matters and maintain a professional image.

 

Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree. Preferably in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.

  • Comprehensive understanding of state, federal and other statutory human resources laws and payroll regulations.

  • 2-3 years of demonstrated human resources generalist experience with a strong focus on recruitment and benefits administration.

  • Experience in schools preferred, recruiting teachers or youth development staff and managing regulatory requirements.
