About SEED:
The mission of SEED schools is to prepare students academically, socially, and emotionally, for success in and beyond college in a public, college-prep, boarding school setting.

Based on the success of the first two schools in The SEED School network, one in Washington, D.C. and one in Baltimore, Maryland, The SEED School of Miami opened its doors with 60 new students in the sixth grade in August 2014. At full scale, SEED Miami will grow to serve 400 students in grades 6-12, 100 percent of whom will come from underserved communities across South Florida.

All students will live on campus between Sunday afternoon and Friday afternoon and transportation will be provided back and forth to home and school on the weekends.

SEED Miami seeks a Director of Finance to manage and collaborate in all aspects of the School’s finance, reporting, compliance, budgeting, risk management and related activities. The Director of Finance will be responsible for ensuring systems, structures and processes, are maintained while remaining flexible for the demands of a start-up/school environment. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Collaborate in all financial, budget and planning activities, including creating financial reports, establishing business policies and accounting practices. As a “defender of the finances”, guide colleagues in choosing wisely among competing priorities, manage cash flow, set up internal controls, and establish best practices to maximize our resources to benefit our students and families. Establish clear policies and procedures related to reporting requirements, purchasing, and budget management, maintaining consistency as well as flexibility for this rapidly growing organization. Ensure that SEED has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation.

Financial Management
ï‚· Manage all accounts, ledgers and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
ï‚· Manage A/P, A/R functions.
ï‚· Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
ï‚· Lead all financial, project/program and grants accounting. Ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period.
ï‚· Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with department managers.
ï‚· Coordinate all audit activity.
ï‚· Work with real estate and construction consultants related to permanent campus planning and budgeting.
ï‚· Develop and oversee program for purchasing supplies and equipment, including preparation of bidding specifications and RFPs.
ï‚· Work with the Senior Leadership team to ensure proper revenue and enrollment planning, compliance and reporting.
ï‚· Work closely with the Director of Operations regarding reports to and meetings with the Board of Trustees and its committees.
• Put in place processes for funds flow and reporting, and to identify appropriate and practical solutions the inevitable challenges posed by this new education entity. Ensure that all funds – public and private – are properly accounted for, that proper reporting procedures are established and transparent accountability is achieved at a reasonable cost.
ï‚· Establish and maintain systems and controls which verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data.
ï‚· Coordinate recordkeeping related to Federal, State, Local County revenue, and private donations, including operational funding, capital funding, and grants. Oversee completion and filing of final reports.
ï‚· Oversee risk management and legal activities including letters of agreement, contracts, leases and other legal documents and agreements.
ï‚· Responsible for managing intercompany transactions including reconciliations and justifications with The SEED Foundation. Budget
ï‚· Collaborate with other Senior Leadership the annual budget development process for both capital and operating budgets. Develop and maintain systems for budget development including templates, forms and processes. Assist school department managers in developing budgets. Review budget requests for completeness, accuracy, and compliance. Prepare budget documents for Director of Operations and Head of School review and board approval.
ï‚· Prepare regular budget reports for department managers, senior management and Board of Trustees to monitor revenue and expenses versus budget and to identify potential budget problems. Prepare annual financial reports.
ï‚· Monitor requirements, reporting and fees related to services agreements with vendors and partners including Miami Dade County Public Schools and The SEED Foundation.
ï‚· Analyze financial and budget-related matters as necessary. Compile data, maintain budget history, and develop multi-year forecasts to assist in planning.
ï‚· Generate ad hoc analysis to support decision making across the organization.
ï‚· Coordinate with Development Team on revenue projections.
Other duties as required or as assigned by the SEED School of Miami Director of Operations.

Qualifications:
• A commitment to SEED’s mission and the belief that with the right resources any child can attend college and achieve his or her dreams.
ï‚· Great Plains accounting software is preferred.
ï‚· A self- starter that can work independently and mange a broad range of finance duties.
ï‚· Possess personal integrity and a strong moral and ethical character. A belief in high standards, accountability for all, and continuous improvement.
ï‚· Understanding of non-profit accounting and budgeting. Demonstrated experience in financial planning. Experience operating in a resource-constrained environment.
ï‚· Experience operating in an environment with significant regulations and compliance requirements, and working with regulators and state agencies.
ï‚· Experience running multi-faceted operations in a for-profit or non-profit organization. School experience, (especially charter school) is preferred. Experience working with a state funding interface is a plus.
ï‚· Demonstrated success developing and monitoring systems to manage operational and programmatic work that involve high levels of collaboration.
• Demonstrated experience in technical accounting skills (full – cycle month end close, generating financial reports, etc.) and starting new operations, establishing new systems, processes and structures.
ï‚· Attention to detail and mastery of facts. Highly organized.
ï‚· High level of business acumen. Ability to consistently make good decisions through combination of analysis, wisdom, experience and judgment. Cool under pressure.
ï‚· Comfortable working in a fluid environment and capable of making adjustments in both day-to-day and larger-scale activities based on new information and situations.
ï‚· Ability to think strategically, to anticipate future consequences and trends, and incorporate them into organizational plan.
ï‚· Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to explain complex financial and compliance issues clearly and concisely in plain language.
ï‚· Minimum of a BA; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
